Aswan University President: Cooperation between the university and the executive and service institutions for implementing Egypt Vision 2030

Today, the Community Service and Environment Development Council No. 81 was held under the chairmanship of Prof. Ahmed Ghallab Mohamed_ Aswan University President_ and in attendance of Prof. Magdy Mohamed Ali_ Vice President for Community Service & Environment Development and Head of the Council, and in attendance of Dr. Ahmed Shabaan_Deputy Governor , Eng. Sami Abo Rada_ Chairman of the Board of the Upper Egypt Electricity Distribution Company, Dr. Hoda Mostafa_ Rapporteur of the National Council for Women and Safety of My Home Branch and Chairman of the Rowing Club, Eng. Sayed Jad Al-Rab_ Chairman of the Authority’s Branch for Development of High Dam Lake, Dr. Mamdouh Al-Sayed_ Director of Environment Affairs Agency Branch, Safaa Abdel Wahab_ Director General of the Adult Education Authority Branch, and Eng. Hussein Jalal_ Chairman of the High Dam and Aswan Reservoir And in attendance of faculties’ vice deans to serve the community and develop the environment.

Prof. Ahmed Ghallab welcomed the attendees and stressed the importance of cooperation between the scientific, executive and service institutions in Aswan to serve Aswan community issues and working on linking the university with the surrounding environment that the university represents the centre of expertise and culture as well.

Prof. Ahmed Ghallab added that a proposed strategy must be developed to spread the culture of volunteering among young people in field of adult education in light of Egypt’s Vision 2030 and working to expand holding seminars and meetings through which illustrating the negative effects of terrorism on society and working to develop youth security awareness and spreading knowledge of the national projects that implemented by the state for a better future for them.

University president stressed the implementation of all precautionary measures inside and outside the university in light of facing the second wave of corona virus.

Prof. Magdy Mohamed Ali_ Vice President for Community Service and Environment Development, indicated that one of the most important things discussed by the Council was to organize days for environment at Aswan University and to conduct training courses to prepare comprehensive medical convoys in cooperation with Aswan Governorate and the Upper Egypt Electricity distribution Company that targeting the poorest villages and come within the initiative of a dignified life and working to hold A course on fish stocks and how to maximize the benefits of Lake Nasser.

Eng. Sami Abo Rada_ Chairman of board of directors of Electricity Company_ expressed the company’s readiness to cooperate in the fields of scientific research and what serves the clean energy system, as well as providing support in the field of medical convoys to serve people of Aswan most in need.

Aswan University is witnessing a surge in scientific research outputs in recent years

Prof/Ahmed Ghallab Mohamed_ Aswan University President declared that Aswan University witnessed a surge in scientific research outputs and that through a series of measures taken by the university that will enhance scientific research and its outputs in terms of quality and quantity of research.

The university followed an advanced scientific methodology with developing strategies and policies consistent with international standards, which had an impact on the emergence of the university in several international rankings and achieved advanced positions globally, locally and regionally.

 

Prof/ Ahmed Ghallab added that this was clearly apparent through the SCOPUS databases and the SciVal Analyst, as the databases showed a strong presence of Aswan University in three of the most important groups of scientific fields in terms of outputs during the last years (2017-2020), which are ranked as the most important 5% of groups of global scientific fields.

These group or the topic clusters are:

– Electric Power Transmission Networks; Wind Power; Electric Power Distribution
– Electric Potential; Electric Inverters; DC-DC Converters
– Heat Transfer; Nusselt Number; Natural Convection

Aswan University ranked 83rd globally and first in Africa in terms of scientific research outputs in the fields of “Electric Power Transmission Networks; Wind Power; Electric Power Distribution ”.

At the level of African continent, Dr. Salah Kamel from Aswan University came first in this field in Africa and among the top 500 researchers in the world (15th in the world).

And in the fields of “Electric Potential; Electric Inverters; DC-DC Converters ” Aswan University ranked third place in Africa and first in the Arab Republic of Egypt. And the lead in this field in Africa was one of scientists of Aswan University, Prof/Mohamed Abdel-Aziz Mehalel Orabi, and among the top 500 researchers in the world (the position is one hundred and thirty-seven worldwide).

In the fields of “Heat Transfer; Nusselt Number; Natural Convection”

Prof. Ayman Othman_Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research_referred to that Aswan University came in sixth place in Africa and second in Arab Republic of Egypt. Prof. Ahmed Mohamed Rashad from Aswan University ranked fifth at the level of Africa and first among the Arab Republic of Egypt, and also among the top 500 researchers worldwide (seventy-fourth place globally).

Aswan University ranked first place in Africa for a number of researchers in fields of “Partial Discharges; Insulation; Power Transformers.

3 scientists of Aswan University among top 2% of scientists around the world

Prof/ Ahmed Ghallab Mohamed _Aswan University president_ declared that the most prominent scientists will be honored, whereas it has been announced that 3 of Aswan University scientists are among the top 2% of scientists around the world, and we congratulate them on this occasion.

It was a study that issued by POLS Biology magazine recently that is the largest of its kind in a database that includes a list of the world’s best 2% of scientists in 22 major scientific fields and 176 sub-disciplines.

The list included 3 scientists from Aswan University among the best 2% of scientists around the world in their specialization, they are:

  • Mohamed Najeeb Rashid_ faculty of Science_ in the field of environmental sciences
  • Ahmed Mohamed Rashad_ Faculty of Science_ in the field of mechanical engineering and transportation.
  • Mohammed Abdel-Aziz Mehalel Orabi_ Faculty of Engineering _in the field of electrical and electronic engineering.

Prof. Ahmed Ghallab added that the importance of this study is based on its reliance on the SCOPUS database and its analysis by using standardized algorithms and measurements to reach accurate and reliable results that include citations, h-index, hm-index and other criteria.

Prof. Ayman Othman_ Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, indicated that the study concludes with a list of the best 2% of scientists worldwide in their specializations.

The list included from Egypt only 219 scientists in various disciplines. And from Aswan University, in the field of environmental sciences, Prof. Mohammad Nageib Rashid, who ranked No. 842 of a total of 66925. He is among only 5 scientists from Egypt in this specialty.

In the field of mechanical engineering and transportation, Prof. Ahmed Mohamed Rashad ranked No. 880 of a total of 92645. The list included only 15 scientists from Egypt in this specialty.

Prof. Mohammed Abdel-Aziz Mehalel Orabi ranked 1807 of a total of 87611 in the field of electrical and electronic engineering. The list included only 7 scientists from Egypt in this specialty.
