A scientific visit opens new horizons for cooperation

As part of the Faculty of Science at Aswan University’s commitment to openness with research institutions and centers, and to strengthening bridges of cooperation with scientific expertise and competencies from outside the University, Prof. Essam Abdel Salam Shaalan, Dean of the Faculty of Science, visited the Sahari Earthquake Research Institute, affiliated with the Geological and Geophysical Research Institute in Helwan, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

The visit aimed to extend an invitation to Prof. El-Sayed Essaoui, Director of the Earthquake Center, to join the Faculty of Science Council as a representative of research institutions outside the University for the academic year 2026/2027.

This initiative reflects the Faculty’s commitment to benefiting from distinguished scientific expertise, linking academic education with research and practical applications, and creating broader opportunities for students to engage with specialized scientific centers and institutions.

During the visit, the delegation toured the Center’s facilities and learned about the nature of its work, including the monitoring and recording of earthquakes and the analysis of seismic data conducted by its researchers. Discussions were also held on ways to utilize the Center’s capabilities in supporting the educational and research processes, as well as providing training and practical learning opportunities for students of the Geology Department at the Faculty of Science.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Maher Ibrahim, representing the Geology Department, to extend the invitation and complete the necessary official approvals for membership of the Faculty Council for the academic year 2026/2027, as well as Prof.. Raafat El-Shafie from the Earthquake Research Center.

Following the visit, the Faculty delegation, accompanied by representatives of the Earthquake Center, attended a seminar hosted by Aswan University under the patronage of Prof. Ashraf Imam Abdel-Rady, Acting President of the University. The seminar was attended by Dr. Abla Ahmed El-Alfy, Deputy Minister of Health and Population for Population Affairs and Family Development and Supervisor of the National Population Council, along with a number of University leaders.

The seminar addressed ways to strengthen cooperation and integration between the University and the Ministry of Health and Population, support the Egyptian state’s efforts to implement the National Population and Development Strategy, and promote the presidential initiative entitled “The Golden Thousand Days for the Development of the Egyptian Family.”

This initiative highlights the importance of integrating the health, social, and developmental dimensions, particularly during the first 1,000 days of a child’s life, which represent a pivotal stage in shaping the child’s future health and psychological and cognitive development.

The Faculty of Science emphasizes that building an influential university extends beyond classrooms. It also involves establishing genuine bridges with research centers and community institutions, transforming knowledge into practice, expertise into opportunity, and cooperation into tangible impact that benefits students, the University, and society.
