Students of geophysics program must spend a period of practical training for six weeks with companies and institutions related to their specializations fields to provide students with practical experience and develop their career capabilities and deepen the concepts they received theoretically by connecting them with practical reality.
Summer training goals:
- Providing student with practical experience and training before graduation.
- Deepening students’ understanding of theoretical sciences they received in their specialization field.
- Familiarizing students to take responsibility and the importance of punctuality.
- Familiarize students for dealing with community members outside university.
- Familiarize students with respecting others and listening to their opinions.
- Practicing practical work in work sector, which completes the educational process
- Learning about equipment in work places and linking that to what is learned in the faculty.
- Providing industrial institutions with information on human resources that will contribute to industry in the future.
- Providing the opportunity for these institutions to evaluate student’s performance during the training period and knowing the extent of benefits from it and employing him after graduation.
- Providing the student with an opportunity to get acquainted with the various work entities to choose the appropriate work entities in his specialization field.
- Providing the student with an opportunity to identify problems in his environment and try to find appropriate solutions through research or graduation projects.
- Giving the faculty a clear idea of labor market needs and its requirements, this will reflect positively on the faculty, whether in terms of developing its curricula or opening new specializations, based on the suggestions received from Academic staffs who are supervisors of students training.
Registration conditions for summer training:
For registering in summer training, the student must fulfill the following conditions:
The student should have successfully completed the third year studies with his specialization in which he is enrolled.
Student should be committed and not dropped out studying at university.
The student must complete the training period before his last semester at the university.
Other requirements are added in case of the credit hours system
Training destination selection:
Scientific departments in coordination with Vice-Dean for Education and Student Affairs are responsible for coordination with companies and institutions inside and outside the governorate with the aim of finding training opportunities for all students nominated for summer training. The scientific departments are responsible for announcing training opportunities and visits to some training organizations in recent weeks of every semester .The student has to agree with the training entity directly, provided that having the approval from the scientific department and the from vice dean of student affairs, which will provide him with official approval and other information required by the training authority.
Registration steps:
Registration for summer training usually begins at the beginning of the third week of second semester and lasts for four weeks. the steps for registration as the following:
- Student shall submit an application for nomination to the department head after completing the registration form.
- Department head office collects registration forms for students who meet the conditions and sends it to Vice-Dean for Student Affairs to review and approval of faculty dean to address the various training authorities.
- Student Affairs administration will conduct an inventory of the training authorities and completes the rest of the contact process with companies and factories that student will be trained in it and informing student the result.
Student training is canceled according to the following:
- Not to go on training in the first three days without an acceptable excuse.
- His absence for five continuous days is not within the first three days.
- His absence is more than 20% of training period.
- According to a report from the company that his lack of interest in training and maintaining the existing and applicable regulations in training authority.
- Failure to submit a summer training report on time.
Student commitments before the training period:
- Ensure that he is not on the list of suspended students from university after the end of the semester that precedes the summer training period.
- Ensure that all necessary administrative procedures are completed by scientific department and Student Affairs Department. Which includes the following:
- Receiving the official letter from the university to the training authority that includes student identification, specialization and assessment forms during the training period.
- Receiving an identification that includes some information, instructions and forms related to summer training.
- Signing a written pledge that includes adherence to the summer training conditions and writing his full address during the training period.
Student commitments during the training period:
- Completing the training period (6 weeks) at the training authority that has been approved to it by the faculty and not to move to another authority unless after obtaining official approval from both Student Affairs and Faculty dean.
- Commitment to the rules and regulations of the training entity.
- Providing the university with a contact guide form that shows the start date of training, training location, and supervisor’s name and address that the form should reach the Summer Training department before the end of the second week of training period.
- Emphasizing on the training official to send the student’s assessment report during the training period to his scientific department in the faculty so that the report should arrive at the end of the training period.
- All information and items necessary to write the final report of summer training.
- Conducting the training from the first day of the training start date.
- Maintaining attendance and leave according to the applicable system.
- Accepting advice and guidance from the supervisors of his training by the authority.
- Adherence to the training program prepared by the authority.
- Following the training authority’s safety conditions.
- Collaboration with other employees and implementing what is required to do.
- Concern of the entity’s properties and treat them with every honesty and sincerity.
- Do not disclose the secrets of training authority he is familiar with and to pay attention to work ethic.
- Following the administrative sequences in the training authority in case they are needed.
- Contact the faculty if there is any problem.
Student commitments after training period:
- Student submits a detailed report about the activities he performed during the training period, with a detailed report on the knowledge acquired by him accredited by training authority.
- Student must pass the oral discussion committee exam to discuss the training report.
Commitments of training authority:
- Providing the student with appropriate job, and not to take advantage of student’s presence in the institution to perform routine works that have no connection to his specialization such as central official or files officer or translator, etc.
- Providing the faculty with a report on student’s performance level, to be sent at the end of training period.
- The institution must work to achieve the continuous relationship between university and student and allow officials from the university to visit the student when it is necessary
The commitments of the Student Affairs Administration towards supervisors are as follows:
- Providing each supervisor with their students lists that supervising their training, indicating student’s name, his specialization, type of training, training destination, and the required phone numbers.
- Providing him with lists of trained students.
- Provide him with assessment form for each student.
- Coordination with him regarding any changes to the lists of students or their training destinations.
Supervisor functions are as follows:
- Student visitation to training site.
- Learning about student training and knowing training conditions.
- Ensuring that there is an appropriate training program for the student.
- Discussing student level and knowing the strengths and weaknesses.
- Ensuring student attendance and commitment to the training program.
- Providing advice and guidance to the student during the training period.
- Follow-up of the student during the training period.
- Answering the inquiries of training authorities or students about training, its regulations, or about the forms required to be filled out by training authority.
- Strengthening the relationship between training authorities and the faculty to serve the public interest.
- Solving problems that the student may encounter during the training period in coordination with Vice-Dean for Student Affairs.
- Providing Vice-Dean for Student Affairs with any brochures, or information about the authorities that he visited so that students can benefit from them when they are needed.
- Filling out the assessment forms and return them to Vice-Dean for Student Affairs within a week after the end of training period.
- Presenting recommendations and proposals to the Vice Dean for Student Affairs on the following:
- Training destinations levels which he visited and the possibility of future cooperation with them.
- The specializations in which these bodies can train students and the appropriate numbers in each specialization.
- Proposals for developing summer training based on the visual and practical realities of the authorities
