- Study the natural risks on asphalt roads, railway lines and bridges in the South Valley region (such as floods, erosion due to weathering factors, and the sliding of rock blocks in places of major bends next to loose rocks), especially the Aswan – Berenice and Edfu – Marsa Alam roads, through cooperation with the General Authority. For roads, bridges, and the General Authority for Railways, with the aim of identifying dangerous places and providing the most appropriate solutions that include the possibility of benefiting from flood water.
- Study the impact of natural hazards (such as floods, earthquakes, desertification, and termites) on large civil facilities such as factories, residential cities, dams, reservoirs, tourist villages, and farms, and prepare a special code for each of them, through cooperation with the Ministry of Irrigation and Aswan Governorate, and considering this study as one of the conditions for licensing the establishment of these facilities. And its continuation.
- Conducting a study of all natural risks for the benefit of insurance companies for all establishments requesting insurance as a means of helping both insurance companies and contracting establishments to be cautious and reduce potential natural risks.
- Study natural risks, such as encroachment of sand dunes, desertification, siltation, and groundwater movement, and the extent of their impact on the efficiency and lifespan of Lake Nasser, through cooperation with the General Authority for the High Dam, the Aswan Reservoir, and other competent bodies.
- Detailed mapping of the Nile islands and other obstacles in the navigational channel between Aswan and Luxor, and placing warning signs (buzzards) in appropriate places to avoid the phenomenon of shipwrecks of cruise ships in the winter season, which is most crowded with tourists, through cooperation with the Ministries of Irrigation and Tourism and the Aswan and Qena governorates.
- Study the risks of erosion of the Red Sea’s beaches and their impact on tourist villages and civil facilities near the beach as a result of the expected rise in sea levels due to the phenomenon of global warming, through cooperation with the Coastal Protection Authority of the Ministry of Irrigation.
- Providing urgent temporary consultations to all parties that request them from the unit in its field of specialization.
- Implementing research projects in the field of natural risks in cooperation with local and international bodies, organizations, universities, and research centers.
- Delivering academic lectures and practical and training applications to university students to spread the concept of natural risks and raise awareness of the necessary measures to reduce them.
- Preparing publications, posters, and radio and television programs to raise awareness and participate in community service in the unit’s field of specialization.
- Giving cultural awareness lectures to the public in general at the university headquarters and in clubs and civil associations in the field of specialization.
- Studies, consultations, and lectures that the unit is assigned to by the college and university administration.
